Absztrakt
My paper is an analysis of an occasional villa-poem by the Flavian poet Publius Papinius Statius. Statius’s poetry was closely linked to the emperor Domitianus. In this study I am going to examine Statius’s collection of occasional poems titled Silvae (Forests). From this collection I choose one particular piece of work: a poem on the luxurious villa of Manilius Vopiscus at Tibur. This villa as a place of otium (leisure), a poetic motif and as well as a real estate was able to express simultaneously the owner’s material aboundance and his philosophical and literary interest.
