Études sur la Région Méditerranéenne https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok
The annual Mediterrán Tanulmányok [Journal of Mediterranean Studies] covers mainly the historical problems of the wider Mediterranean region (North Africa, the Ottoman Empire, the Balkans, the Middle East), and the region's relations with other parts of the world, from the modern age to the present day (16- 21st century). The published articles are expected not to be written in Hungarian.
Szegedi Tudományegyetem Újkori Egyetemes Történeti és Mediterrán Tanulmányok Tanszék fr-CA Études sur la Région Méditerranéenne 0238-8308 Relations of King Władysław Jagiełło of Poland with the Latin Kingdom of Cyprus in the Early 1430s https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44800
The article is devoted to a relatively unknown Polish-Cypriot episode in the late medieval period, which was unusual for the realities of 15th century Europe. In 1426, Cyprus was conquered by the Egyptian-Syrian Mamluk Sultanate, and the island’s ruler himself, Janus of Lusignan, was taken captive by the Muslims. After regaining his freedom, the Cypriot king attempted to acquire aid in the Christian world to throw off Muslim supremacy. One such attempt was the expedition of a Cypriot envoy to Poland in 1432. The proposal made by the Cypriots on that occasion was for the marriage of the heir to the island’s throne with Hedwig, the daughter of Poland’s King Władysław Jagiełło, and also included a request for a loan in exchange for the Polish side’s almost practical assumption of control over Cyprus.
Łukasz Burkiewicz (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 5 19 Il conflitto tra Venezia e l’Impero per il possesso della Terraferma e della “Patria del Friuli” (1411-1431) https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44801 Gizella Nemeth Adriano Papo (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 21 36 Foreign policy of Elizabeth I https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44802
This study examines the foreign policy activities of Elizabeth I (1741–1761) and their implications for the Russian Empire. Despite being one of the least researched topics in historiography, Elizabeth I’s foreign policy holds significant importance, particularly in the context of the Russian Empire. Elizabeth’s foreign policy exhibited several key features and orientations. She pursued the doctrine of Peter the Great, specifically in securing and expanding Russian control over Baltic territories. The Empress’s foreign policy was influenced by her advisers, Jean Armand de Lestocq and Alexey Bestuzhev-Ryumin, and was characterized by a German orientation, primarily supporting Austria. Elizabeth actively participated in political coordination. In addition, the study explores the Empress’s role in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor and her efforts to maintain friendly relations with Prussia and Austria during the War of the Austrian Succession, as well as Russia’s participation in the Seven Years’ War.
Dorottya Mihályi (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 47 62 Implications of the 1920 Trianon Peace Treaty for Egypt and its Consequences on Bilateral Relations with Hungary https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44804
Based on the press, archival, and online materials we have researched so far, it can be concluded that Egyptians were already deeply involved in the events, news, analysis and commentary of the Paris Peace Conference since 1919. This special interest was also evident in the Trianon Peace Treaty. Egyptian writers have expressed sharply critical views on the unjust peace dictate in newspaper articles and analysis dumps from its signing to the present day. In this paper, we will first provide a brief insight into Austro-Hungarian-Egyptian relations prior to the World War I, and then explain the circumstances of the conclusion and signing of the Treaty on Trianon. We also discuss the peace negotiations and the contemporary and current Egyptian echoes of the signed peace treaty. We will also discuss the consequences of the Trianon Peace Treaty for relations between the two countries, and what links the Arab media have suggested between Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s statements and the peace treaty of a century earlier.
Zoltán Prantner Abdel-Ati Al-Naggar Abdallah (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 63 77 Miklós Horthy Jr. and Egypt https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44805
There is no doubt, that Miklós Horthy Jr., the younger son of the Hungarian regent, had an indisputable role to play in boosting bilateral relations. Using his position in the Anglo- Hungarian Bank, he made six visits to Egypt, where he personally contributed to the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries. Here, we aim to portray the background, events and results of the official and unofficial visits of Miklós Horthy Jr. to Egypt, based mainly on the reports of the leading newspapers, as well as on the documents of the foreign affairs archives.
Zoltán Prantner Abdel-Ati Al-Naggar Abdallah László J. In this article, Carlo Rosselli unmasks the lies of the fascist propaganda who have told that all the Italian soldiers in Spain was volunteers when in reality they were all mercenaries. On this connection, Mimmo Framzinelli have reason, and the present article contents an analysis of the text written by Carlo Roselli and some considerations on the injustice on the Rosselli brothers’s killing committed by the Italian justice.
Alessandro Rosselli (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 89 96 Les marginalisés sur les marges https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44807
The Spanish military participation in the French army during the Indochina War (1946– 1954) is relatively unknown, but the destiny of the Spanish participants stays even more in the dark. One of our purposes, in this paper, is to uncover these potholes in Franco-Spanish historiography, thus starting with the explanation of the background of the French presence in the Indochinese Federation. In order to understand the reason why Spanish volunteers served in the French Foreign Legion, we shall examine their situation during the first decades of the twentieth century, and more specifically, during the government of Francisco Franco. Thus, the main objective of our paper is to study, with the help of the French military platform, Mémoire des hommes, the Spanish republicans on the run from the fascist regime, who sacrificed their lives in faithful service to France during the Anti-French Resistance War.
Viktória Bába (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 97 105 Quelques considérations sur le 1er Novembre https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44808 Abdel‛Alim Medjaoui (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 107 116 De quoi le 5 juillet 1962 est-il le nom ? https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44809 Fouad Soufi (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 117 120 Une amitié ennemie ? https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/mediterran_tanulmanyok/article/view/44811 Péter Ákos Ferwagner (c) Tous droits réservés 2023 2023-07-28 2023-07-28 33 121 128
