Absztrakt

The study seeks to reconstruct the itinerary of King Charles I in 1341 on the basis of all the existing sources. It is part of a greater project aimed at publishing all sources of the Angevin period in Hungary. While working on the latter task, the author came to the conclusion that the former itineraries compiled by 19th and 20th century historians contain lots of mistakes and contradictions. Establishing the whereabouts of a 14th century king poses no problems to Western European historians given the abundance of sources, while their East-Central European peers have sometimes to be content with being able to reconstruct a royal itinerary of a certain year. Therefore the current study takes a step ahead by piecing together all the information preserved in the sources during the above-mentioned year. The king spent the most part of the year in Visegrád, capital of the realm, leaving it only two times for diplomatic negotiations, once for hunting and once for a journey of unspecified aim. The lack of mobility on the king's behalf can be attributed to the consolidated political athmosphere of his kingdom, and perhaps to his illness.
