Absztrakt

This paper deals with the life and career of Martin, son of Emyh of Devecser, who was a vice-judge royal between 1293 and 1297 in the Hungárián Kingdom. By the later Arpadian age the vice-judge royal (Latin: viceiudex curiae, Hungárián: alországbíró) was the head of the court of 'royal presence' (praesentia regia) and he judged in the name of the king, the judge royal (iudex curiae, országbíró), contrary to his name, had not a jurisdictional function in the royal court in this time. Martin originated from the lower nobility from county of Veszprém (West-Hungary), and, contrary to the previous opinion of Mór Wertner, his family was not from the Péc kindred. He belonged to the followers of Andrew III. from the beginning, alsó his official was obtained directly by the king (usually the judge royal appointed the vicejudge royal). During his life he enriched the patrimony, he got estates in county of Veszprém. From his successors originated the Csoron (or: Choron) family, which was a gentry one in this county from the XVth to the XVIIth century. At the end of the paper, in the appendix, the genealogical connection between Martin vice-judge royal and the Csoron-family can be seen.
