In this thesis, the operational background of the ethnic Hungarian and German associations in Vojvodina will be examined, with particular emphasis placed on the activities of the leading cultural organizations (Népkör, the Hungarian Cultural Association in Nagybecskerek, and the Kulturbund) during the period 1918–1929. The principal demographic characteristics of the two communities will first be outlined. Subsequently, the objectives of the major associations and the cultural and social activities undertaken by them will be discussed. Particular attention is given to the vibrant social life of the ethnic Hungarian and German minorities, and their defining features are highlighted. For the purposes of this research, archival materials from Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Budapest, as well as press sources and relevant historical literature, have been utilized.
