Absztrakt

In my study, I examine caricatures from comic papers (Az Üstökös, Bolond Miska, Borsszem Jankó, Bolond Istók, Kakas Márton), in which Mór Jókai appeared as a main or supporting character. The aim of the study is to show how the comic papers presented Jókai as a politician, how they reflected on his diverse activities in parlia-ment and in the delegations. Jókai’s bad political image, characterised by his following of Kálmán Tisza and his servile availability to the Liberal Party, may have been generated, but was certainly reinforced, by the caricatures, which emphasised this feature from the beginning of his political career.
