Authors of epitomae and breviarii from the late Imperial period in Petrarch’s glosses
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article focuses on two of Petrarch’s glosses. The first one, which accompanies a passage of Livy in the manuscript of Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Lat. 5690, attests that the “Father of Humanism”, in one of his codices now lost or not yet identified, could actually read the Historia Romana of Paulus Diaconus under the name of Eutropius. The other one, written in the manuscript of the Historia Augusta, Vatican Library, Pal. lat. 899, offers a new proof that Petrarch attributed the authorship of the Periochae of Livy to Florus.
