Boccaccian interpretations of a continent’s namesake – Europa as mythological figure and earthly mortal
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this study is to represent the various interpretations of Boccaccio in his two Latin prosaic works (Genealogia deorum gentilium and De mulieribus claris) regarding Europa, the Phoenician princess. Analyising the chapters dedicated to her, I would like to describe the variety and the copiuosness of telling in essence the same story, if the goals and attitudes differ, but the author and the literary sources are the same.
