Abstract

Several publications support the positive effect of the foliar application of yeast solutions on the vegetative growth of agricultural crops. The aim of the present experiment was to develop an environmental friendly practical method with the use of a S. cerevisiae strain, which can be used easily in small- and middle-scale farming, and which can result in a significant yield increase. In our study, instant dry yeast and S. cerevisiae NCAIM Y.00801 solutions were sprayed to the foliage of tomato plants in two concentrations (0.1 and 1% v/v) and with two frequencies. As a consequence, 5- 30 percent increase of the amount of marketable fruits was experienced. The most favorable effect was measured in the case of 0.1% S. cerevisiae NCAIM Y.00801 solution when applied in triplicate.
