Abstract

European transport networks are characterized by increasing concentration of traffic. Sea freight harbours are in a special situation as they are naturally located in a limited space, on seashores. The goal of the paper is to analyse the concentration of the freight loaded and unloaded in European regions having sea harbours. We have time series data after the millennium, thereby we can also provide a dynamic description of the process, the divergence of harbours. The empirical evidence is based on the most common indices of concentration.
