Abstract

Nowadays, consumer awareness has become a fashionable expression and consumers like to think they are conscious. It is particularly interesting to investigate consumer awareness within a segment that pays more attention to preserving health particularly so in case of people who regularly do sport. Our paper focuses on the market of food supplements in context of consumer awareness and sport activity. Our survey was filled out by 737 persons who make regular sport activity. By examining the consumption intensity of food supplements, we confirmed that the group of people who regularly make sport activity is heterogeneous. Direction of attitude and the consumption intensity of food supplements differ by segments. The majority (ca. 60%) of the respondents can be considered as potentially stable consumers. However, the most serious problem is that information about the consumption of products comes from an equivocal source, e. g. trainer or word of mouth advertising. The importance of doctors, pharmacist and dietitian is low in obtaining information.
