In recent decades, the wine industry has shown an increasing interest in Quality Management Systems (QMS). The most popular QMS are HACCP and ISO certification system in wine sector. Beyond the production based QMS there are many other systems such as, eco-certification, eco-labelling that can enhance market position of the wineries. In addition, QMS could be appeared in the wine tourism and interconnected services such as certified wine routes. The aim of the paper is to investigate the role of QMS in wine industry outlining its advantage and disadvantage presenting Italian, Greek, Califomian and Hungarian case studies. The case studies prove that QMS are the driving forces of higher customer satisfaction, more efficient production, rationalizing processes, reducing risks and facilitate wineries to achieve better market opportunities. Future research is needed in order to take into account the role of QMS among Hungarian oenologists and wineries.
