Absztrakt

The career development of elite athletes conducting higher education studies is
influenced by their short- and long-term objectives shaped athletes' abilities, interests
and future plans. In order to realize these objectives, athletes need to make
decisions, which influence their athletic career parallel provide them with the possibility
to meet academic requirements, thus prepare for post-athletic life. The aim
of the study is to discover the change of priorities related to academic studies and
athletic career during university years of studies. Data collection was conducted
via Evasys survey automation software by means of online questionnaires involving athletes receiving sport scholarships at the University of Debrecen (N=207). By the time Evasys closed down, a total of 159 completed questionnaires had been sent back (N=159). According to the results, elite athletes appear to have definite athletic goals and taking athletic risk factors into consideration, they appear to consciously prepare for the post-athletic stage, while striving for athletic excellence.
