As a result of the increasing labor shortage in Hungary, retention management has become one of the HR's key area during the past few years. According to the results of empirical studies in the field of this topic, most companies are trying to keep their workforce engaged by increasing incomes and better working conditions. Also, a significant number of company introduce other measures, like flexible working hours, providing extra days-off, more diversified tasks, etc. In our research, the effectiveness of these retention measures was measured on the basis of the opinion of the workers. Altogether, 1,731 employee questionnaires have been processed at 56 companies. In our analysis, we used the methods of descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis test. According to our findings, employees consider organizational measures to retain labor force as essential and effective overall, but we also found significant differences between the ratings given by respondents along the age, position and job-creation criteria.
