Absztrakt
The Hamerli Glove Manufacture was an important industrial unit in Pécs. The working class was the most determinative social group in the free royal city. The most factories were founded in the middle of the 19th century. Thanks to the industry became Pécs the economical centre of the South Transdanubian Region. The Hamerli Glove Manufacture was founded by János Hamerli in the 1860s. János Hamerli was a very talented tanner, who wandered after his studies in the Habsburg Empire. In 1865 he founded a glove manufacture in Vienna. He continuously developed his manufacture in Pécs, which became a recognized glove manufacture. He and his manufacture got a lot of international prizes. After his death his sons continued his work in the manufacture. After the Word War II the socialist state nationalized the manufacture. In the 1960s was founded the sample workshop in the manufacture, where was planed more than 26.000 type of gloves. In the 1990s the state tried to sell the manufacture, but thanks to the state’s bad economical position it failed. in the end of the 1990s the manufacture bankrupted. Nowadays 3-4 smaller glove manufacture work in Pécs.
