Absztrakt

This study aims to examine the main characteristics of the emergence and unfolding of the Hungarian economic crisis between 2008 and 2012, using the frameworks of three major economic crisis theories: Keynesian theory, Monetarism (Milton Friedman), and the Financial Instability Hypothesis (Hyman Minsky). These theoretical approaches interpret the causes of economic disequilibrium and the internal dynamics of crises in different ways, thus offering diverse analytical perspectives for uncovering the deeper, structural layers of economic downturns. The analysis highlights that although the three theories follow distinct logics, their interpretations are not necessarily mutually exclusive. On the contrary – when viewed together, they complement each other and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the complex nature of the crisis.
