Career start and the importance of workplace support in the careers of nurses
Main Article Content
Abstract
Nowadays, nursing is considered an increasingly scarce profession. Despite significant wage adjustments in healthcare, very few young people choose this profession each year, and a significant number leave healthcare at the beginning of their careers. The main reasons for this are heavy workloads, inadequate working conditions, and an unfavorable work environment. New nurses have to cope with the challenges posed by the profession, patients, and colleagues, and they have to fit into a team that has been working together for years, which is often not easy. In order for experienced nurses to be able to properly assist their new colleagues, it is important to understand the processes that a nurse starting their career goes through before they become a fully trained professional. Only with this knowledge can experienced nurses be expected to provide appropriate, empathetic, and professional support to newly qualified nurses as they start their careers and integrate into the work community, thereby giving them a better chance of staying in the profession.
