Abstract

Within the topic of disputes over the Ukrainian statehood, the study presents views on the activities of the “founder of the state”, Khmelnytsky Bohdan, in Ukrainian and Russian historiography from the very beginning to our days. Even though the depiction of history in the context of Russian-Ukrainian relationship might seem to be controversial, and attitudes to Khmelnytsky Bohdan were continuously changing over the centuries, both the Ukrainian and Russian-Soviet historiographies show a positive picture of him (due to different reasons).
