Abstract

The system of characters is given on Madách’s solitary sheet of paper. Let us scrutinize the minor characters from the Puppet Player to the „Red Boys” streaming towards the his stand and studying Cornelius Nepos, from the 32
Gypsy Woman of London to the young Officer of the Paris scene or to the Student of Prague II.
Let us listen to Apostle Peter’s speech and the Charlatan (the Insolent), too, not forgetting about the crowd of London’s danse macabre.
The minor characters will be revealing their true faces in the background of grand events.
We will pay attention to these figures from scene to scene and examine their roles. If we accept that every element of a piece of art is an Archimedian point then the scenes can depend on any minor character. By examining them the meaning of the text can be re-elaborated.
