How did János Háry spend his summer holiday at Laké Balaton? A children's choir camp near Laké Balaton

Abstract

This essay presents the daily life and programmes of a children's choir in a summer camp near Laké Balaton. The camp's aim was to provide a complex art experience for children as a completion of the all-year work. The activities and games were based on Háry János, the famous opera by Zoltán Kodály. The children were involved in the funny story of the old vet with the help of music, painting, dancing and drama techniques. They made cos-tumes, decorations, musical instruments and put the opera on stage till the end of the week. Competition was alsó part of the process. The last day the parents were invited to see the play. In my article I am showing this weekly process and illustrate my work with several examples and ideas.
