Abstract

The new type of matriculation examination has been guided in 2005 in Hungary, but there are many debates about of this exam. In our study we compared the two types of exams to see the differences between the efficiency and the attitudes of students. Our da-ta's had given the examination results of a secondary school, between 2000 and 2011. The samples consist 1118 student (334 male and 784 female), from four class type. The number of the old and new type examinees was equal. The starting points ofthe research were the following hypotheses: (1) the new type exam is a regulated and integrated sys-tem, so, there will be no difference in efficiency between students with various type of class or about their gender; (2) the new exam give many possibilities to the students, so they find the best exam subjects, depending on their capabilities; (3) because of the de-crease of the scales, there will be less dropping out students. Based on the results, there were no significant differences in the average rating of students on the two types of ex-aminations. The new exam is better for the boys. In the two-level exam, the students take exams from music, art, ethics and Spanish languages, and less student chosen the tradi-tional subjects, for example physics, gym. In the 10 years of research there were 26 stu-dents who get 1, 77 % of them get it on the old exam. There are no differences of the stu-dents' results in many subjects, except the history, where most ofthe good result (111 of 143) had given in the old exam. In this study, we find that there was not much change in the last 10 years.
