Abstract
Center and periphery can be intrepreted in many several ways. These paper analyzes the question on the level of the world economy and in the dimension of development. Marking out the centers and peripheries of the world economy by Wallerstein played in the international trade relations a dominant role. In today’s global economy became foreign direct investments by/ instead the trade ralations more and more dominant. The goal of the paper is to set up the principles of the center"periphery model on the basis of foreign direct investments. We demonstrate that due to the changes of the last decades, there are new centers emerging (mainly China) and the role of the „old centers” (mainly of western-european countries) drops. The geographipal distribution of the FDI outflow of these centers suggest, that in the global economy the geoghraphy of the traditional periphery relations have to be rethink.
