Abstract
Guarding of the border of the Czecho-Slovakian Republic was provided by first the Financial Guard, then the Financial Border Guard and finally the Gendarmerie from 1933. It was jointly managed by other law enforcement authorities: the police and the Financial Guard (Custom Offices). Within the Gendarmerie, flying forces (squads) were organized on the German and Hungarian borders, whose task included eliminating the armed teams who got through the borders of the country and empowering the Gendarmerie stations. In 1936 the State Protection Authority was established (St. O.S.), which belonged to the Ministry of the Interior. As a military organization it was responsible for the protection of the boundary zone and the territories between the fortresses. The army assigned an important role to the military squads, which participated in the border defence, and the protection system that had been built earlier. It was the guarding forces' task to protect the state borders with the help of the fortresses. The army was mobilizing and marching at the border more times.
