Abstract

The division of Hungary into natural and social geography regions has already a significant literature in Hungarian regional science. The regional models on various historical periods of Hungary set up with a strong professional base have been created often in different perspectives and with the use of different regional factors; in their comparison they can be combined with different advantages and disadvantages. The division of Hungary into homogeneous regions covers the whole of the space, and can serve as a good approach to the sufficiently aggregate economic-based region formation. The spatial division models based on the connection systems often serve to describe the more general economic and social processes that appear in the settlement structures and in the transport and transportation links, but which are hidden behind them. However, reaching the demanding professional goals associated with them is often difficult.

The data describing the economic and social relationship between centers and their attraction areas are limited in the current systems. In the absence of relevant data, region formation is forced to compromise on displaying the rapidly changing social geographic processes.
