Absztrakt

The study of the human resources of the Szeged tourism sector was conducted in 2012. In the course of the investigation, 875 employees of 167 facilities and businesses were contacted. The present paper –based on the databases of the survey –investigates the spatial characteristics of people working in the city’s tourism sector based on their places of origin and places of living. The aim of the study is to find answers to the following questions: Where do people working in the Szeged tourism sector come from? As the touristic centre of the Southern Great Plain region, to what extent does Szeged attract employees from its environs? How many people are motivated to commute as a result of job opportunities in the Szeged tourism sector? The responses provided for the questions were analysed according to roles played in the tourism structure, breakdown of age group, highest level of school qualification and qualifications in tourism. The Szeged tourism sector mainly employs people of local origin. The majority of those participating in the survey had a permanent address in Szeged. The study mainly focuses on those respondents who are not from Szeged or do not live in Szeged. The significance of the survey lies in the fact that it examines the tourism of Szeged from a new aspect, which sheds light on important spatial relations.
