Abstract

The Name Magyarization process in Hungary had several stages, its newest starting in the 30s. The Trianon borders have altered the ethnic structure of the region, and Germans became the biggest minority in Hungary. In the offices it was done voluntarily, but it was also done under compulsion, which of course depended on the German-Hungarian relations. The independent organizations of German minorities were supported by Germany, the role of German capital increased, and economic relations widened. Yet they could not manage to form an independent economic organization until 1943. During this time Name Magyarization was influenced by the committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, but deportations and later relocations started a new wave.
