A Starved Utopian Thinker? Lizardi and Liberalism
Main Article Content
Abstract
Abstract: For José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi the advances of liberalism simulated nationalist ends —but they were buried, because the half daily weight assigned to him by President Victoria was stolen by angry enemies, liars all of them, of a welfare state generalized in the workshops, schools, and family. Lizardi starved to death. He went from oral to writing. According to him "he did what he could for his country"— which, unfortunately, was corrupt. El Pensador did not keep quiet about the injustices that buried the victories of the revolutionaries. The first novelist; the first single newspaper author, where he exposed how the utopias were twisted. He has done more for Mexico since he died; He left his "papers" from an excommunicated person. He spent part of his existence in prison.
Keywords: Utopia, homeland, nation, independence, illiterate.
