Parenting styles and their impact on the child

Abstract

In my study, the theoretical approach, main typologies and examination procedures of parenting styles will be presented, which is one of the central topics of psychology (especially developmental psychology). Numerous studies prove that the relationship between parent and child, the characteristics of parenting, have an impact on the child’s personality development. Without claiming to be exhaustive, they influence such important psychological characteristics as the child’s self-image, self-esteem, social competence, anxiety level, ability to cope, future orientation, school performance. These effects can be detected not only in childhood, but also in adolescence and even in the case of young adults (college students).
