Abstract

The literature review provides insight into the characteristics and opportunities for deeper understanding of the relationship between the teacher and the student. In this study, attachment provides a general theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between teachers and students. The aim of the study is to look at the possible factors and scenes that can influence the relationship between the lower elementary school students and the teachers. The literature focusing on this topic regards the relationship between the teacher and the student as a complex system, which is influenced by formal and non-formal learning environments. The study addresses the role of attachment, behavioral and learning problems, and the impact of parent-child relationships on teacher-child relationships. The paper presents international research programs which are suitable to promote positive development in the student-teacher relationship. It presents an instrument which is used to explore the teacher-student relationship from the teachers’ perspective (Student-Teacher Relationship Scale, STRS, Pianta, 2001), while also outlining measurement options that assess students’ relationship.
