Abstract

In this study I examine how binary opposition, the central concept of theories dealing with symbolic classifications of cultural anthropology comes to life in the novel; the representation of our and their group traditions, as well as how the degrees of stereotyping appear in the text. Last but not least, I also study the cohesion forces along which the diaspora Jewish ethnic and religious community has survived in Europe and overseas.
