Abstract

This paper has two major objectives. First, it aims to answer the following research questions: What are the different types of verbal aggression that are hard to expose, and how can they be identified? Can verbal aggression be nonintentional, or is it always intentional/deliberate? What are the linguistic specificities that accompany the process of abuse? Which linguistic features inflict secondary injuries? In addition to presenting a new, detailed categorization of 47 types of verbal aggression based an extensive Hungarian corpus collected over ten years, this study also outlines the four stages of verbal aggression to help potential victims identify the linguistic patterns within it.
