Abstract

Throughout this article my task is to explore the legitimacy of pedagogical and educational policy declarations related to the concept of ‘solidarity’ in the Hungarian education in the second half of the 20th century; especially in the 1960s and 1970s. Research findings have proved that solidarity was irrelevant in the paradigm of a top down organized society; whereas commitment and devotion to the “community” appeared in the norms of a transcendent identity. The formation of solidarity as a pedagogical goal and practice was effective in cases of horizontal relationship networks where abundant experiences enriched the lives of students.
