Abstract

Almost one third of Hungary's settlements are small villages, which have their own demographic, social and cultural situation. Understanding this is an important element in stopping the exodus of people living in these areas and helping them in their daily lives, whether it is social care, access to culture and cultural consumption, education or lifelong learning. Interpersonal networks and social capital in the community are of great importance in the life of these communities.

One important element to highlight is the village guardianship service, which was examined in a study in Spring 2022 with both qualitative and quantitative elements. One specific focus of the study was cultural mediation activities. In my presentation, and within the framework of this study, I will present the results of this research in order to illustrate the specific situation of small villages and the role of the village guardians in cultural mediation.
