Abstract

Sociocultural possibilites of our digital living-space is mostly equal to our predigital ones. It seems that we still dislike our new living-space. Why do we feel that our identity, relations and cultural tradition is in danger? I examine the question from a metatheoretical point of view with the help of the notions of identity, creativity and mythology. I try to find complementary viewpoints for evolutionary answers (such as „whoever stays out misses out” and „adaptivity is the key to surviving”). I suggest interpretations such as the extrasomatic character of our symbol-based knowledge systems, the cognitive basis of our identity’s digital representation, the paradox character of mythology, or the individual and social relevance of the complex thinking-based creativity.
